|---|---|---|
| Servo drives (PWM) | 4–16 kHz, harmonics to 30 MHz | Encoder errors |
| VFDs | 150 kHz – 30 MHz | Communication dropouts |
| SMPS | 100 kHz – 200 MHz | Sensor drift |
| Shield Type | Coverage | Best Frequency Range | Flex Suitability | Relative Cost |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Foil | 100% | >15 MHz | Poor | 1× |
| Braid | 65–95% | 1 kHz – 15 MHz | Good | 1.3–1.5× |
| Spiral | 70–95% | 1 kHz – 10 MHz | Excellent | 1.2–1.4× |
| Foil + Braid | 100% | 1 kHz – 200+ MHz | Good | 1.5–1.8× |
| Foil + Spiral | 100% | 1 kHz – 200+ MHz | Excellent | 1.6–2.0× |
For PCB interconnections within the robot controller, a trace width calculator helps engineers optimize signal paths and maintain controlled impedance from the cable shield termination to the board-level ground plane.
Epekto sa gastos at ROI
| Cable Type | Unshielded | Single Shield | Hybrid Shield |
|---|---|---|---|
| Encoder cable (/m) | $2.80 – $4.50 | $4.20 – $6.50 (+50%) | $5.60 – $8.00 (+85%) |
| Motor power cable (/m) | $3.50 – $6.00 | $5.00 – $8.50 (+45%) | $6.50 – $10.00 (+75%) |
| 6-axis robot harness | $350 – $600 | $500 – $850 (+42%) | $650 – $1,050 (+75%) |
Compare these premiums against EMI failure costs: a single day of troubleshooting averages $2,000–$5,000. A warranty callback costs $5,000–$15,000. The $200–$700 premium per robot for proper shielding is one of the highest-ROI investments in the entire BOM.
Mga madalas itanong
Can I use unshielded cables inside a cobot?
While cobots generate less EMI, we strongly recommend against unshielded cables for encoder and communication lines. Foil+spiral shield with single-end grounding is the minimum recommended configuration.
How does shielding affect cable flex life?
Spiral shields maintain full performance beyond 10 million flex cycles. Braided shields last 5–10 million cycles. Foil shields degrade rapidly — as few as 50,000 cycles can crack the aluminum. For continuously flexing cables, spiral or foil+spiral hybrid shields are the only appropriate choices.
